In the summer Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi was the subject of interest from Liverpool following the Birmingham club’s relegation to the Championship, but the Frenchman is staying put… for now.
The defender was also recently linked with Ligue 1 club Marseille and (quoted by French outlet SoFoot) Amavi referred to them by name when talking about his future.
He said: “For now, I’m at Aston Villa, they rely on me. I will do my best to make up. Later, we will see later. I do not think I’ll go to Marseille, I’m at Aston Villa and I do not think about leaving.”
Returning from a long-term ACL injury, Amavi has made twelve appearances for Villa this season as they look to climb the table and enter contention for promotion at the first time of asking.
He was in sparkling form at the weekend, starring in a 3-1 home win against Cardiff City. He assisted the opening goal from Albert Adomah and made more passes than anyone on the pitch, aside from defensive midfielder Mile Jedinak.
The left-back certainly seems happy with life at Villa Park, also telling SoFoot: “Personally, I feel well at Aston Villa, the atmosphere in the group is good, the facilities are beautiful, the city is beautiful too.”
With 18 youth international appearances with France, there’s no doubting Amavi has talent and will likely attract plenty of suitors come the summer despite his love for life in Birmingham.
