Aston Villa Transfer Roundup: Maupay pursuit ended, Tuanzebe blow, Jota speaks about move

Yesterday’s Aston Villa transfer roundup included interest in a Premier League goalkeeper, news on a Tanzanian international and an update in regards to a Ligue 1 midfielder. Today’s edition features the end of the pursuit of a French striker, a blow in regards to a former loanee and comments from a new signing.

Maupay pursuit ended

According to Friday’s print edition of the Daily Mirror (page 60, via HITC) Dean Smith has ended his interest in Brentford striker Neal Maupay. The 22-year-old scored 25 goals for the Bees in the Championship last season, but Villa see the valuation of £15m as too steep.

Tuanzebe signs new United contract

Aston Villa target Axel Tuanzebe has signed a new contract with Manchester United it has been confirmed. The defender spent last season on loan at Villa Park as the Midlands club earned promotion to the top-tier and Villa had wanted to sign him on a permanent basis, but that now seems unlikely.

Jota comments on Villa move

Jota has been speaking about his move to Aston Villa with Spanish outlet El Chiringuito. The former Birmingham City man said, “I think the past few years in England have been really good. I’ve managed to make a name for myself and I think it’s the right time to go to a great club, a big English club.”
