Aston Villa’s week has undoubtedly been a stark contrast from the one they were greeted with as the Premier League season got underway.

Dean Smith’s men picked up their first wins of the season – in the Premier League against Everton and then in the Carabao Cup, thrashing League Two side Crewe Alexandra 6-1.

Every single player signed over the summer has now played some part this season, including Egypt ace Trezeguet, who had been playing in front of fellow countryman Ahmed Elmohamady for the early part of the season.

Though, that experiment doesn’t seem to be paying dividends.

On the Chalkboard

The 24-year-old’s impact in the Premier League to date has been far from inspiring, which could suggest a struggle in adapting to his new surroundings.

Last season for Kasimpasa he netted nine goals whilst laying on nine assists. However, having started all three games this season, he is yet to record something in either column.

The winger has also struggled with one major area of his game – dribbling.

Find out which Premier League stadium has been ranked the worst in the video below...

In the Super Lig, he was averaging 3.3 dribbles per game, and even that was ramped up over the summer for his national side in the Africa Cup of Nations, where he made 3.8 dribbles per match, according to WhoScored.

This season in the Premier League, he has managed just 0.7 dribbles per game, which is a catastrophic drop. On top of that, he is averaging four unsuccessful touches a game.

Crosses are also down across the two seasons, from 1.6 per match with Kasimpasa to now 0.7 at Villa, per WhoScored.

Maybe Smith is better off going with Jota, who has started just one Premier League match this season but has far greater experience in the English game having originally joined Brentford in 2014.

The Spaniard has already produced more than Trezeguet in far less time – only emphasised by him managing seven through balls in just 92 top-flight minutes.

It’s time to make a change.
