Aston Villa are keen on in-demand Burnley striker Charlie Austin and boss Paul Lambert is being tipped to make a summer £4m offer, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

Austin has had an outstanding season for the Clarets in the Championship, ending the campaign as the club's top scorer with 28 goals while he also won their player of the year award.

The 23-year-old could be allowed to move on this summer as he has stalled on signing a new deal at Turf Moor and is entering the final year of his contract next season.

Lambert is already planning his summer spending and is understood to have watched Austin while he was in charge of Norwich City and views the forward as the perfect addition to his young Villa squad.

Sunderland, Celtic, Newcastle and newly-promoted Hull City are all also interested in the former Swindon Town hotshot and, with his contract set to expire in just over 12 months, he could be lured away for as little as £4m this summer.

Burnley say they have yet to receive any official approaches for their star man but are bracing themselves for a summer of interest with Villa thought to be favourites at the moment to sign him.
