Fanatik (via Sport Witness) claim that Aston Villa are interested in signing Trabzonspor striker Daniel Sturridge and have offered €5m (£4.2m) to land their target.

The former Liverpool striker only left the Premier League in the summer but the recent report suggests he could already be set to return.

And if the deal does go through, there would be one clear winner and one loser at Villa Park.

Did he really play for us?! No Everton fan has managed to name all of these obscure Toffees players....

Winner: Jack Grealish

With nine goals and a total of six assists across all competitions in 2019/20, Grealish has been Villa's greatest attacking and creative outlet in the ongoing campaign.

But despite all his talent and potential, the young 24-year-old midfielder is often the only spark the Villans have in the final third and much of the creative responsibility falls onto his shoulders.

After all, he's leading the way in both goals and assists in the Premier League and it's pretty safe to say that he could use a helping hand. Sturridge is a player who could offer him exactly that. With seven goals and four assists in Turkey so far, the former Liverpool player is someone who can both score and set up play himself.

Maybe his inclusion could lessen the burden of Grealish and help him reach a new level altogether.

Loser: Mbwana Samatta

Samatta only joined Villa this month and even though he has been hailed for his talent, it very much feels like Sturridge could push him down the pecking order.

Even with Wesley out with an injury, Samatta could end up playing second fiddle to the veteran that already knows the Premier League inside out, having previously played for Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

By all means, it wouldn't be a good start for Samatta, who'd be fighting a rather tough battle right from the start at his new club.

In that regard, he just might become the loser of this whole deal.
