Former Burnley midfielder Dean Marney is training with Aston Villa after being released by the Clarets, and could be snapped up on a free transfer according to The Mirror’s live transfer blog (16/07 10:09).
The experienced 34-year-old had been at Burnley since 2010 and made over 200 league appearances for the club.
The midfielder couldn’t break back into the team after suffering a serious injury in January 2017 and didn’t feature for the Turf Moor outfit at all last season and was released by the club.
Now according to reports, the hardman is training with Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa who may look to sign him permanently with their current financial troubles meaning they will struggle to sign any players for a fee.
At 34 and not having played for quite some time, there are questions hanging over Marney.

However, Villa don’t have many options other than scouring the market for free transfers and loans, and Marney will offer a lot of experience to Bruce’s side.
It may not be the most exciting signing but unfortunately this is the way it is for Villa at the moment and fans will have to hope Bruce can work a miracle with the players next season.
