Aston Villa's rise to the Premier League has been a great achievement but they have been struggling throughout the ongoing 2019/20 season, now finding themselves in the relegation zone.

Maybe they can use the winter transfer window to turn things around, however, and with that being said, Football FanCast has outlined two priorities that Dean Smith must address in the first month of 2020.

Offload Henri Lansbury

Even though this is not really a reinforcement or a boost per se, it's business Villa simply have to attend to and it's been coming for some time.

The 29-year-old central midfielder has been largely unused throughout the campaign, tallying only 103 minutes across six games played in the Premier League, and doesn't seem to be an important figure in Smith's plans.

Red Herring or Real Hero: Only hardcore Villa fans will get all of them right....

He's wasted the chances he's been given to impress, such as his display against Sheffield United, and Villa should really be looking to sell Lansbury before reinvesting the money into the squad.

His contract is still valid until 2021 so maybe he can add a few coffers to the kitty.

Find an alternative to Wesley

Wesley only arrived at Villa Park a matter of months ago but the centre-forward has struggled to make his mark in the Premier League with a mere four goals to his name - two of which came in one game and all of which were scored before mid-October.

Villa do have other sources of goals in the team such as Jack Grealish but they need a guaranteed net-finder if they're going to stave off relegation come the end of May.

And that goes double considering they've really struggled to keep goals out this season with nearly two conceded per game in the top flight.

Unless Villa are going to dramatically improve at the back, they need to ensure somebody can fire them in at the other end. Wesley's yet to prove he's that man.
