With the game against Tottenham Hotspur at 2-2, Dean Smith opted to use his substitutes' bench in an attempt to get all three points.

In the 70th minute, he brought off Anwar El Ghazi to bring on Trezeguet, which eventually didn't work, as they came out 3-2 losers.

This did get plenty of fans talking about the Dutchman's performance though, as they were left very impressed by his performance.

Fans showed their general appreciation for his performance, which had looked as though it would earn Villa a point at that stage of the game.

His biggest contribution came for the opening goal, when his cross into the box forced Toby Alderweireld to convert the ball into his own net.

Someone's got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?

One fan described his performance as a "good shift", while another said that he was "excellent today".

While there was celebration of his performance, there was also frustration about the fact that he was coming off.

The 24-year-old had completed both of his attempted dribbles up until that point, as well as playing a key pass, so the feeling was that he could have helped the team push forward.

The decision to bring him off didn't directly contribute to the eventual defeat, but it also failed to work out the way Smith would have hoped.

Meanwhile, one Villa man is still yet to prove himself for the club.
