Elphick to be shipped out on loan, Aston Villa fans react

Tommy Elphick has spent the majority of the season on Aston Villa’s bench, mainly due to the summer arrival of John Terry.

The defender, who joined the Midlands outfit from Bournemouth in 2016, did not play for almost three months after getting sent off in Villa’s 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in September.

During Terry’s injury layoff in December, Elphick was brought back into the team by manager Steve Bruce.

The 30-year-old impressed in a four-game spell, but he has not featured since Villa’s 5-0 rout over Bristol City on New Year’s Day.

Last week, the ex-Bournemouth captain was presented with more competition when Axel Tuanzebe was signed on loan from Manchester United.

Now it appears that Elphick will be leaving Villa on a temporary deal himself, with Sky Sports reporting that he is on the verge of signing for Reading until the end of the season.

After the news emerged, some fans expressed disappointment in the defender’s imminent exit, while others are satisfied with the reported deal.
