Aston Villa have parted ways with Steve Bruce following a woeful run of results that saw the club win just one of their last ten games in all competitions.

The last straw was an eventful 3-3 draw with Championship strugglers Preston on Tuesday, where Villa threw away a two-goal lead, had a man sent off, scored a dramatic late equaliser, missed a penalty in the last kick of the game and, of course, saw a cabbage grab the headlines.

Hovering in 13th position in the Championship, Villa are fortunate to be just two points behind the play-off positions but there is a threat that their promotion hopes will go up in smoke if the right appointment is not made.

Amongst those in the running are Arsenal legend Theirry Henry and Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, former Villa defender John Terry and Shakhtar Donetsk's highly-rated boss Paulo Fonseca.

Of those four candidates Fonseca, who has been praised by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in the past, is the sort of addition that can help Villa rival Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa at the top of the Championship and his experience would prove to be vital, giving him the edge over Henry and Terry, while he is a more realistic option than Benitez.
