Aston Villa defender John Terry will make a decision about his future at the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.

What's the word?

After leaving Chelsea at the end of last season, rather than move to another Premier League club or abroad, Terry opted to drop down to the Championship to play for Villa.

The signing was a big coup for the Midlands outfit given that the defender has proved that he can still perform a solid job at the back.

The Daily Mail claims that the 37-year-old has the option to extend his current deal at Villa by another 12 months, but the player will not make a decision until the end of the season.

It is believed that the former England captain has no shortage of offers from elsewhere, with China, the Middle East and United States all thought to be potential options.

What should Villa do?

There is no denying that the team have been more successful this season with Terry in the heart of defence.

The Chelsea legend has started 21 league matches for manager Steve Bruce, and it would have been more had he not suffered injury in the closing stages of 2017.

As it stands, Villa are sitting in an automatic promotion spot following last weekend's 2-0 win over arch rivals Birmingham City.

The club only have a one-point cushion in the top two, so there is still plenty of work to do.

On one hand it would be foolish to let a player of Terry's stature leave, but on the flip side, there is a question mark over the defender's ability to cope with the demands of the Premier League.

Being in his late 30s may hamper the defender, particularly as he will be taking on world-class attackers in the top flight.

If Villa gain promotion, Terry may decide to walk away given that he has claimed before that he would not want to play against Chelsea.
