Aston Villa's on-loan striker Tammy Abraham netted his fifth goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Derby on Saturday, but his stats so far this year only serve to add to the argument that he has found his current level in the Championship.

England's second division is a fantastic league. It's challenging, physical and fiercely competitive, but the quality is clearly not as high as the Premier League, where Abraham struggled with Swansea during the last campaign.

Let's take it back to the start though. Abraham joined the Chelsea academy at U8 level and came through the youth sides scoring a hatful of goals.

This form clearly caught the attention of Guus Hiddink towards the end of the 2015/16 season, as the Dutch interim manager invited him to train with the first team before handing the 6ft 3in striker his Chelsea debut as a substitute in a 1–1 Premier League draw with Liverpool.

That summer, the youngster was sent out on loan to Championship side Bristol City, and it was there that he made a name for himself. In 48 games for the Robins, Abraham netted 26 goals and won the club's Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer awards.

In 2017, the London-born striker signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea and made another loan move, this time to Premier League side Swansea. Things never quite went to plan though and Abraham often looked out of his depth against top Premier League defenders, as he managed just eight goals in 39 appearances and the Welsh side were relegated.

Despite this, the Chelsea man also earned his first senior England cap during that season when he made his debut in a 0-0 draw with Germany at Wembley, although this now surely looks premature from Gareth Southgate as he is back with the U21 squad.

This season, Abraham is back in the Championship with Villa though and he's certainly back scoring goals.

Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, Villa should consider an attempt to make his move permanent at the end of this season. His displays so far this season prove that Abraham is clearly a top Championship striker, and he may well improve too as he is still just 21-years-old.

For now though, his time at Swansea last season has proven that he is too raw and wasteful to be considered good enough for Chelsea in the Premier League.
