Predicted XI: How Aston Villa may line up if they sign multiple reported targets

How Aston Villa go about their business after being promoted will be fascinating to see.

There are multiple methods the club may look to consider after the varying approaches different clubs have taken in recent years.

Fulham spent over £100m but came straight back down. However, Wolves kept the brunt of their Championship side together whilst adding experience around it.

Getting things right will be absolutely crucial as Villa get set to embark on a return to the Premier League.

With the transfer window now in full swing, it looks like Dean Smith is set to be busy amid a host of players being at the centre of reports suggesting they could join the club. So, here’s a look at how they may look next season.

On this evidence Villa’s side next term could look considerably different.

For starters, there is a replacement in goal as Jed Steer, despite his penalty heroics against West Brom, drops out in favour of Neil Etheridge. Villa had an £8m bid rejected for him this week, with the Midlands club on the lookout for a new number one.

In the centre of defence are Gary Cahill, linked with a possible return per The Sun, and Tyrone Mings, who the club want to bring back.

In midfield, Harry Arter may be the man to dislodge Conor Hourihane after attracting the interest of the Villans in recent times. Alongside John McGinn and Jack Grealish it would be a well balanced midfield.

Smith’s attack is also set to undergo considerable surgery. Replacing Tammy Abraham as the main striker is Neal Maupay who Villa could pay as much as £20m for per a report from The Sun.

On the right flank is Joe Lolley, someone who could desperately improve their wide area if he signs. He was the subject of a report in The Daily Mail claiming that his boyhood team are expected to bid for him.

Rounding things off is Anwar El Ghazi, a player Villa could look to bring in following his goal in the play-off final. The Dutchman has an option to buy in the terms of his loan agreement.

How many of them arrive remains to be seen but it’s estimated they’re after as many as ten new players in the window.
