Aston Villa’s dream of promotion to the England Premier League ended with heartache on Saturday after they were defeated 1-0 by Fulham in the Championship Play-Off Final.
A first half Tom Cairney goal was enough to seal the victory, with Steve Bruce’s side offering little in attack to respond, even after the Cottagers went down to ten men with 20 minutes remaining.
Fans were left frustrated with the performances of many players, none more so than Lewis Grabban.
The on-loan forward was largely ineffective throughout, far below the level that allowed him to net 17 Championship goals throughout the season.
Fans of Sunderland and other clubs took great delight in his misfortune, believing it was comeuppance for his ruthless move from the Stadium of Light to Villa Park in January, with some accusing him of glory hunting.
Is that a harsh assessment, or did the player deserve to be on Saturday’s losing side?

At least Lewis Grabban won’t have to worry about the relegation affecting his promotion #safc

Lewis Grabban is possibly the worst striker I’ve ever seen play football…

Lewis Grabban's performance has to be one of the worst I've ever seen from a striker.

Genuinely gutted for Steve Bruce after the season he's had off the pitch. Not so gutted for Villa in general. Delighted for Grabban 🤣.
Over the moon for @ThomasCairney what a player.
