Aston Villa fans react as Islam Slimani emerges as a potential signing

Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after L’Equipe (print version via Sport Witness) reported that Leicester striker Islam Slimani – who is currently on loan at Monaco – has emerged as a potential signing for the club this month.

The Algeria international has enjoyed an excellent campaign with the Ligue 1 club since arriving on a loan deal back in the summer, scoring six goals while also notching seven assists.

L’Equipe report that Slimani has been showing his frustration in training as he feels Monaco do not value his services enough, which has prompted talk of an exit for the 31-year-old attacker.

Dean Smith’s side are in desperate need of a new striker after it was confirmed that Wesley would miss the rest of the season, and while Slimani is enjoying a brilliant season so far, he did struggle in England with the Foxes and might not be the best option.

Following a £29m move to the King Power Stadium from Sporting Lisbon, the Algerian scored just 13 goals in 46 games for Villa’s Midlands rivals – not the best return for such an expensive signing.

No

Nevertheless, let’s see how the Villa fans on Twitter reacted to the news…

To begin the reaction, one fan with the username ‘#BringBentekeHome’ begged Villa not to sign Slimani – given their tweet and their username, it seems clear that they don’t want the Algerian but they do want a return for Christian Benteke.

Elsewhere, these two fans also didn’t sound too pleased with L’Equipe’s report.

One simply said “terrible” after hearing of the news, while another supporter named Jack said “that’s a horrible rumour” – it’s safe to say that this pair also don’t really want Slimani at Villa Park.

Meanwhile, Wes and ‘Slick Rick’  expressed concern over the quality of strikers that Villa have been linked with.

Wes even went as far as saying “fire the scouts” in charge of finding new recruits, while the second supporter stated that it’s a “real worry” in regards to the strikers linked with a move to Villa Park.

Did this footballer play for Aston Villa?

However, Oliver rounded off the discussion by mentioning Slimani’s performances for Algeria at the 2014 World Cup, before saying “I’d take him” – at least one fan is showing a bit of optimism over this news!

In other news, Suso and Purslow have created a major problem that Villa will now struggle to solve…
