Christian Benteke has formed much of the transfer speculation and hype in the Premier League this summer. However, this culminated on Friday evening with the rather surprising news that talks with Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert had successfully convinced the Belgian to withdraw his transfer request and pen a new deal until 2017, which is alleged to not even include a release clause.
With so much speculation and comments surrounding his decision to hand in a transfer request in the first place, coupled by the many teams’ fans who would have hoped the young striker would be donning their shirt the next season, check out how the Twitterverse reacted to the breaking news…

I AM LIVID BENTEKE SIGNED A NEW CONTRACT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING LEVY?!

Benteke’s decision to agree a contract extension until 2017 is just about the best deal Villa & Paul Lambert could have done this summer.

@HotspurRelated lets just pray and pray some more it happens we missed out in Benteke and Villa lets just hope we can secure Soldado

So Spurs can’t afford 22 year old Benteke for £25m but they can afford 28 year old Soldado for £25.8m … makes sense.

Gotta say. Guts by Benteke didn’t think he had it in him to walk back on that training field and just get on with it. Well done #avfc

Paul Lambert got Benteke to sign a new deal without a release clause.. Master negotiator! Good season and World Cup and that’ll be £40m!

If Levy wasn’t in charge of Spurs, Bale would have been sold weeks ago, for a shit price, and we’d paid £25M for Benteke #ThankGodForLevy
