According to reports in the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are targeting a move for Greenock Morton winger Jai Quitongo, but they could face competition for his signature from a number of Premier League clubs.

Who?

The pacey 19-year-old has impressed for the Scottish outfit this term, scoring six goals in 20 appearances in all competitions.

The highly-rated forward has now been called up for the Scotland Under-21 team because of his good form, but he is also eligible to appear for Portugal too.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the youngster is out of contract next summer and is free to talk to clubs outside of Scotland in January, with a view to sealing a pre-contract deal.

Villa sent a scout to watch Quitongo in action against Falkirk at the weekend, and they are likely to check on him again when the Scotland Under-21s face Slovenia during the international break.

Premier League sides, including West Ham United, Swansea City and Crystal Palace, have also been linked, but Villa are said to be confident they can match any offers from the top flight.

Do Villa need a winger?

With the likes of Jordan Ayew and Albert Adomah available to Steve Bruce, probably not.

However, the 19-year-old could well be seen to add depth to the squad and an option for the future, as the club look to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
