Despite the adverse result against Tottenham Hotspur and the frustrating way it came about, there is still positivity among Aston Villa fans.

Anwar El Ghazi and Mbwana Samatta are among those who were given praise for their individual performances during the 3-2 loss.

Matt Targett is another one of those who satisfied Villa fans with the display he gave on Sunday.

Villa fans have been impressed with the 24-year-old, both against Spurs and throughout the campaign, with one fan stating he is "improving week after week", while another claimed he "played a blinder".

Against Spurs, Targett completed three tackles, one clearance, five interceptions and one dribble.

Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?

He has also made an impact in 21 games across all competitions this campaign, scoring twice and assisting twice, while averaging 1.7 tackles, 2.3 interceptions and 2.8 clearances per game.

The opinion has been given by various Villa fans that the performances being put in by Targett may even warrant an England call-up.

Villa have already had Tyrone Mings representing them for the nation this campaign, so the hope is that Targett and Jack Grealish can be added to that contingent.

The 24-year-old will face competition from Ben Chilwell, Danny Rose, Luke Shaw and former teammate Ryan Bertrand if he is to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate's squad.

Meanwhile, Villa are setting out their offer to keep Grealish.
