Lovre Kalinic will likely be disappointed by the way things have turned out for him at Aston Villa so far.

Having joined the club in January 2019, the Croatian has made just seven league appearances, being hauled off at half-time during the final one.

After failing to get any further minutes, he may have been hopeful of making his mark in 2019/20, despite the increased competition that came as a consequence of promotion to the Premier League and subsequent addition of Tom Heaton.

That was not to be the case though, as the 29-year-old failed to make a single appearance across the league, Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the first half of the season.

It is this lack of influence that led to him being loaned out to Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse during the January transfer window, which has given him the chance to make a claim for substantial game time.

His case was helped by the revelation that Baptiste Reynet felt betrayed by seeing his club going out and signing another goalkeeper, as reported by L’Equipe.

In terms of minutes, his start got him exactly what he will have wanted: three matches, 270 minutes played.

He was unable to have much of an impact on results for the side now sitting bottom of the Ligue 1 table though, as they got just one point, which came from a 0-0 draw against Amiens.

And the 6 foot 7 Croatian's dominance of the goalkeeper position was brought to an abrupt end against Marseille, as he suffered a tear to his left thigh in the 36th minute - as was reported by L'Equipe.

The timing of this injury, when Kalinic had just started earning himself some regular game time, will likely be seen as a massive blow for the stopper, as it will keep him out for around a month.

As well as keeping him off the pitch, it gives Reynet a chance to reclaim his place as the No.1.

Meanwhile, Kalinic commented on his compatriot's Instagram post.
