Weimann backs Aston Villa to beat the drop

Aston Villa forward Andreas WeimannAston Villa star Andreas Weimann is confident that the team can avoid relegation from the Premier League, despite defeat at the hands of Arsenal over the weekend.

The 2-1 loss, allied to Wigan’s victory, dropped the Midlanders back into the bottom three.

The Villains have now only managed one win in their last ten league games, the sort of form which could lead to spending next season in the Championship.

But Weimann, who scored Villa’s only goal at the Emirates, feels that they can still beat the drop:

“We’re all confident we can get out of this.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“It’s never nice to concede at the end but we to take belief from the way we played.”

Weimann was at fault for Santi Cazorla’s winning goal, as he allowed full-back Nacho Monreal to move unopposed into the area to cut the ball back to the midfielder.

The Austrian was upset that he one lapse of concentration proved to be so costly:

“It was me who let the left-back (Nacho Monreal) in behind me. I switched off. But we’re confident of turning it around.

“I should have tracked him. I tracked him all game and for one second I switched off.”

Villa face fellow relegation strugglers Reading and QPR in their next three league games.
