Barcelona president Sandro Rosell believes that Victor Valdes will extend his stay at the club.
His current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, and the 31-year-old is believed to be keen on a new challenge, after winning silverware regularly over the course of his career.
But, Rosell is still hopeful that he will elect to stay put, and feels that the man who graduated from Barca’s youth set-up can be persuaded to do so:
“I hope he will (agree to renew),” he is quoted by talkSPORT via El Mundo Deportivo.
“Like we said, what we need now is for summer to arrive, for Barca to win everything possible, for Tito to make a full recovery and talk to Victor Valdes and show him once again that the club wants to keep him here.
“Once all that’s happened, I believe he will reconsider.”
Barcelona have been linked with a number of replacements for Valdes, with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina thought to be one of their preferred options.
The Spaniard started his career with the La Liga leaders, and it has been suggested that he could be tempted by a return to the club.
