Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Alexis Sanchez is set to miss this weekend’s North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Sanchez missed last Sunday’s 5-0 thumping over Aston Villa with a hamstring injury, and has now been ruled out by his manager for this Saturday’s clash.
Wenger said: “The latest is that Alexis is not ready. He is not far away, the Leicester game is a possibility.
“He is of course very difficult to keep quiet! He is training but it’s light training.”
This will be a big blow for the Gunners after it was initially revealed he was making progress in his recovery, with the Chilean international an integral part of the Gunners this season scoring an incredible 16 goals in 26 appearances.
But the news will be a welcome boost for Tottenham, who will be even more confident of recording a victory over their bitter rivals and leapfrogging them in the Premier League table.
Wenger will, however, have the services of Danny Welbeck to call upon, after the England international returned to full training this week after missing the last month with a thigh strain.
The Gunners will need to up their game without Alexis Sanchez when they travel to White Hart Lane this weekend, but will still be confident of making it two consecutive away wins against Spurs.
Now Spurs striker Emanuel Adebayor scored a brace that day, with former captain Cesc Fabregas also on the scoresheet to secure the three points.
