Bournemouth close in on £12m Chris Mepham move

AFC Bournemouth are closing in on the £12million signing of Chris Mepham from Brentford, according to BBC Sport. The Cherries are keen to bolster their defensive line with the signing of the centre-back.

What’s the word?

Bournemouth have been tracking Mepham for the last two transfer windows but finally appear set to get their man. The report by BBC Sport claims that he will undergo a medical on Tuesday after the two clubs agreed a fee.

The Wales international has been a key part of Brentford’s team this season, making 24 appearances in all competitions.

Mepham is set to become Bournemouth’s third signing of the January transfer window, with the Cherries having previously acquired Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne (on loan) from Liverpool.

Determination pays off

Howe has been coveting Mepham for a while and the pursuit is reaching its conclusion.

The move appears a smart one in the sense that the defender has improved at Brentford during the time he’s been on Bournemouth’s radar. He now arrives at the Vitality Stadium ready to slot into the starting XI given he is perfectly suited to the Cherries’ style of play, as he is comfortable at bringing the ball out from the back.

It will also likely allow Tyrone Mings, who has struggled for form and fitness at Bournemouth, to complete a loan move.

Sky Sports claim that Mings is wanted by West Bromwich Albion, and the two moves could end up working well for every party involved.

Mepham makes the step up to Premier League level, Bournemouth reinforce their defence and Mings gets some first-team minutes under his belt.
