Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe recently stated that Jermain Defoe could expect first team opportunities this season despite having only seen a handful of minutes of Premier League action so far, as reported by The Mirror.
However, with the likes of Callum Wilson and Josh King in such good form for the Cherries it is hard to see how the former England international can force his way into the first team at the Vitality Stadium.
At 36-years-old Defoe hardly represents the future for the south coast club and his space in the squad could surely be given to an exciting youth prospect. At this stage of his career, the winter window could also be the last chance for Bournemouth to recoup any funds for Defoe.
Many Cherries fans certainly think that the time to offload the veteran striker has come, with 67% voting in our poll for Defoe to be sold in January. See the full results below.
