Brighton and Hove Albion announced on Monday morning that they had sacked manager Chris Hughton with immediate effect, with the search for his replacement seemingly underway.

A dreadful run of form in 2019 that saw the club pick up just two Premier League wins before the season finished on Sunday put paid to the 60-year-old's time at the Amex Stadium.

The south coast outfit ended the campaign in 17th position and just two points above the relegation zone, and their style of football in recent months especially has hardly been entertaining or inspiring.

Naturally, supporters on the popular North Stand Chat forum have been discussing who they would like to see replace the former Newcastle United and Norwich City man.

What have they said?

Any interesting names?

There certainly is, and a few unrealistic ones.

Whatever happens in the next few months, it is difficult to see either Rafa Benitez or Arsene Wenger accept the job, as one poster suggested.

Marcelo Bielsa will also surely be destined for bigger things should he leave Leeds United, while Chris Wilder would be unlikely to leave his boyhood club having only just taken them into the Premier League.

Otherwise there are some more realistic names bandied about.

The likes of Dean Smith and Frank Lampard could well be viable options depending on how the Championship play-offs pan out, while Steven Gerrard would surely be tempted by the offer of a Premier League job.

It will certainly be an interesting few weeks for Brighton, with Swansea City's Graham Potter the overwhelming favourite as things stand.
