Blackburn Rovers suffered relegation to the third tier on Sunday as they finished the season in the Championship relegation zone on goal difference, and they received little sympathy from fans of arch-rivals Burnley.

The Lancashire outfit knew that they had to win to give themselves any chance of staying up having started the day in the bottom three, but despite their 3-1 win at Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City also both picked up all three points to send Tony Mowbray’s men down.

The Clarets effectively ensured secured their Premier League status with a 2-2 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, which means they will be plying their trade two divisions above their local neighbours next term.

Burnley supporters were quick to have their say on the news via social media, with some suggesting that they will never play Blackburn again.
