Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, according to Sky Sports.
Costa has played a pivotal role in Atletico Madrid’s push for the La Liga and Champions League double, with Jose Mourinho having long been a keen admirer of the striker.
The Blues just missed out on the title and the Portuguese manager insisted he wants to make a big transfer coup as soon as possible.
And it seems Chelsea have agreed a deal with the Madrid outfit for their star striker, but it is not expected to be formally announced until early June.
A 1-1 draw against Malaga last weekend means that Atletico will travel to face Barcelona this Saturday for a title deciding match, and only seven days later face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Costa suffered a hamstring problem in that draw with Malaga, and his absence could greatly affect Diego Simeone’s side’s chances of winning the league.
Chelsea on the other hand, have completed their season – finishing third place in the English Premier League.
The Blues only managed to score 71 goals compared to Man City’s 102 and Liverpool’s 101, which led to early speculation Mourinho wanted to make a big-money move for a prolific striker.
Diego Costa has 27 goals in 33 league appearances this season.
