Manchester City and Chelsea have been left frustrated by the news that Edison Cavani has passed a medical at Paris St Germain and is on the verge of completing a £55million move, according to the Daily Express.
The future of Cavani has been one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer, with the Premier League giants reportedly competing for the Napoli man’s signature, with the Uruguayan considered to be both clubs’ number one target.
Cavani arrived in Paris on Monday morning to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of the staggering £55million move, which will see the Uruguayan earn an incredible £8.5million a season – making him one of the highest earners in world football.
The move is also set to pave the way for an exit for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede only joined the French club last summer, but now looks set to be on the move once again, with Chelsea ironically the club being linked.
Jose Mourinho is still desperate to make a marquee signing upon his return to Stamford Bridge, and is also targeting Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski, who has delayed his proposed move to Bayern Munich by a season.
Missing out on Cavani will come as a blow however, after the forward smashed a superb 36 goals in all competitions for Napoli last season.
