Chelsea and Man City face transfer fight for Uruguayan

Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)Manchester City and Chelsea will have to fight off interest from Borussia Dortmund if they are to complete a swoop for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Uruguayan international has been on the radars of both Premier League clubs of late and was thought to be the subject of intense interest during the summer.

Godin’s current contract with Atletico expires in 2015, which could see his value plummet over the course of the coming transfer windows.

The Spaniards are pressuring the defender to pen a new deal to avoid this, but as of yet an agreement hasn’t been reached.

City and Chelsea are rumoured to be considering January moves, but may have to battle Dortmund for his services.

The German giants have sent scouts to watch the 27-year-old as they prepare to up their own transfer plans.

Godin is speculated to be considering his future with Atletico, having spent three seasons at the Vicente Calderon.

A new challenge is thought to be attractive to the South American, with Chelsea and City keen to offer him just that in England.

If Godin suitably impresses Dortmund’s scouts, a winter move could be a possibility.

Should Chelsea and Manchester City up their interest in Diego Godin?
