Chelsea and Man United to battle Barca for starlet

Marquinhos

Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City are ready to battle Barcelona for the signing of Roma starlet Marquinhos, according to the Daily Star.

United and Barca are both understood to have launched bids for the young Brazilian, while Chelsea and City are thought to be preparing offers of their own.

The player’s agent Roberto Calenda, has revealed the Italian giants are now open to letting him go for the right price.

“Roma has told us that there is the possibility of a sale, and we’ll respect the decision they take,” he said.

“There are offers from PSG, Barcelona and Manchester United, and it’s possible the club accepts one of those.”

The 19-year-old centre half has only been at the club for a year, but has attracted rave reviews for his assured performances.

Mega-rich Paris St Germain were thought to be leading the race for his signature, with sources in Brazil claiming the club had launched a £30million bid for his services.

Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been keeping close tabs on the player, and will be boosted by the fact his agent has revealed the player may be likely to move this summer.

A representative for the centre half said: “It’s a natural thing that there is a lot of interest in him, but Roma have not allowed us to talk to anyone.

“I can confirm I was in Barcelona, but it happened a long time ago and Marquinhos is not my only client.”
