For all the talk of disruptions behind the scenes affecting Chelsea’s form, there is a far more obvious cause to the Blues’ recent struggles – poor performances defensively.
While that shouldn’t be blamed solely on one individual or even one department, it’s hard to ignore the fact Chelsea have conceded 13 times in their last seven games and kept just one clean sheet, against relegation-threatened Bournemouth.
Injuries have been an issue alongside disappointing displays, so with Chelsea facing arguably their biggest test of the season this Sunday in the form of Manchester United, we asked Blues supporters earlier this week to vote for which three centre-backs should start the 4.30pm kickoff.
And according to our poll, most Chelsea fans think a back three of Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and youngster Andreas Christensen is the best option – meaning captain Gary Cahill would have to settle, at best, for a spot from the bench.
