The Portuguese superstar is rumoured to have grown unsettled at the Bernabeu in recent weeks, with the sale of Angel di Maria believed to have irked him.
Ronaldo is understood to have told members of Real’s hierarchy that he’s not happy with the deal, with the Argentine perceived to have been a key player at the club by the 29-year-old.
Further to this, he is said to be frustrated that his weekly wage – £288,000 – has dropped below other stars, with his former United team-mate Wayne Rooney earning more, while new Red Devils idol Radamel Falcao is reportedly on nearly £350,000-per-week.
But a source close to the club says that Real will not even think about letting Ronaldo leave, and that they will likely hand him a new contract as the highest paid player on the planet:
“This is all about money. Cristiano considers himself to be one of the world’s greatest players and doesn’t want to be paid less than anyone else, no matter who they play for.
“But Madrid are in no mood to let him go and will almost certainly end up giving him whatever he wants. He’s too important for them to let go.”
United have been linked with a move to re-sign their Old Trafford hero after Ronaldo admitted that he would like to return to his former side, while Chelsea have also been mentioned thanks to their ability to match the spending power of the world’s elite clubs.
