Chelsea to test Liverpool’s transfer bottle

Chelsea are on red alert as Raheem Sterling’s contract talks with Liverpool stuttering, according to reports from The Express.

The 20-year-old has been, arguably, the Reds’ most important player this season with Luis Suarez now at Barcelona and Daniel Sturridge having been out injured since August.

His versatility and pace have led to Brendan Rodgers fielding him as his main centre-forward in recent weeks, which has coincided with an upturn in form.

Liverpool have been attempting to tie their man down to a new deal with his current contract set to expire in 2016, but reports over the weekend revealed that negotiations have stalled.

Rodgers has maintained that he’s confident of keeping the youngster – who he recently allowed to leave the club on a mid-season break in Jamaica – however, Chelsea are now monitoring the situation.

A January move is highly unlikely, but if the situation is still unclear in the summer they may test the water with an offer.

Sterling recently starred against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup, netting the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Anfield.
