Tonight, La Liga superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo go head-to-head for the title of the best footballer in the beautiful game – with an honourable mention to Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer of course.
Former Manchester United attacker Ronaldo is the hot favourite to bag the award, however, Lionel Messi’s, a reported transfer target for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, record in 2014 for Barcelona and Argentina makes for highly impressive reading: 66 games, 58 goals and 21 assists – Ronaldo’s is slightly better with the Portuguese star averaging over a goal a game for club and country combined: 60 games, 61 goals, 22 assists.
It is often reported that the world’s most iconic footballers aren’t particularly, erm, the best of friends with each goal, phenomenal record or wonderful skill seeming to feel like a ‘challenge’ to one another.
Anyway, ahead of tonight’s FIFA hosted spectacle, as the world’s greatest unite under one roof, there will no doubt be a few more awkward photos like this one below…
