Abramovich intervening at Chelsea to sign January season saviour

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has personally contacted Lazio in a bid to lure Antonio Candreva to London in January, according to reports from TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Blues are currently stuck in a real rut on the pitch, with Jose Mourinho’s men having put up a woeful defence of their Premier League title.

Seven losses in their opening 12 games has left Chelsea much closer to the foot of the table than the summit, and heaped pressure on the ‘Special One’, whose job has been called into question in recent weeks.

And it seems that Abramovich has reacted to the slide by personally stepping in to chase Candreva ahead of January.

Reports claim that the Russian has approached Lazio to discuss the future of the Italy international, who has been in Rome for three-and-a-half seasons.

Chelsea were fairly quiet in the summer transfer market – which has been mooted as a reason behind their struggles – so cash could be in place to fund a deal.
