Antonio Conte’s Premier League start as a Chelsea manager is historic

Antonio Conte has of course received a lot of praise since becoming Chelsea boss in the summer. His side are romping away with the Premier League title and it’s going to take a remarkable comeback from one of the teams behind to overhaul the Stamford Bridge side.

That’s amazing in itself considering how poor a season the Blues had in 2015/16.

More amazing though is what you find when you compare Conte’s start in the Premier League with other managers. As shown by Opta, after this many games since taking charge, no manager in Premier League history has won more games than the Italian manager.

The win at Palace made it 14 wins from 17 and regardless of the quality of performance, Conte’s side keep grinding out the three points. That’s never been more evident than in the three 1-0 victories over the last week that has put serious pressure on the teams chasing them.

While they’ve had some impressive victories in the season so far, it’s these kind of results that reveal the true character of the Chelsea team right now. They are games, as the cliche goes, that win you the league title.

Whether that happens remains to be seen but you can’t argue with the start Conte and Chelsea have made nor can you argue that it would require an incredible effort to now overtake the Blues at the top of the table.
