To suggest that the current Chelsea outfit operating under Jose Mourinho this season are in need drastic improvement sooner rather than later, would certainly go down as an understatement.

The Blues are yet to convincingly return to winning ways back among the English top-flight, several high profile players have seemingly failed to turn up throughout the course of 2015/16 – and as for the current state of Jose Mourinho himself – well, the enigmatic Portuguese tactician simply looks further and further away from rediscovering the plot with every passing week.

However, one saving grace for the Stamford Bridge faithful to look forward to this season could nonetheless arrive in the form of the upcoming January transfer window. As Chelsea are hardly struggling from a financial perspective at this stage in the proceedings, the Blues will likely find enough resources to help the team out of their current plight one way or another.

Shakhtar Donetsk front-man, Alex Teixeira, has subsequently been heavily linked with a move to West London in recent weeks, with many expecting the in-form Brazilian to go down as Chelsea’s marquee capture throughout the January window.

However, is Alex Teixeira really the man to save Chelsea’s season this term, or does Jose Mourinho ultimately have other plans up his sleeve this winter?

Well, although the player in question may indeed fail to arrive as the most infamous name we’ve come across on the general transfer scene of late, the rapidly emerging Brazilian attacker really looks like he could turn out to be a pretty influential asset on his day.

When it comes to rapid movement right amongst the heart of the opposition’s back-line, consistent displays of quick-feet and technical skill inside the opposite penalty-box – as well as some good old fashioned calm, collected composure in front of goal – this 25-year-old South American may very well portray something quite close to the real deal at some stage down the line.

The powerful talent already has a whopping total of 26 goals to his name this season, but what is perhaps more impressive from the striker in question, is the fact that Alex Teixeira has managed to amount such a lofty total in as little as 25 appearances this term. Whilst each of Fernandinho, Luiz Adriano, Willian and Douglas Costa have also impressed during their respective spells with Shakhtar – this latest Chelsea target could easily represent the most exciting Brazilian talent of them all.

So then, although the Blues have admittedly been linked with a whole host of questionable players with varying degrees of probability this season, it seems the Stamford Bridge faithful may well have found themselves a genuine cause for positivity. Their team simply needs a good injection of energy this campaign - and Alex Teixeira could go down as the ideal choice.

With the likes of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Willian potentially working alongside him in the Premier League, the current star of Russian football could well serve to impress under Jose Mourinho. The English game seems perfectly suited to someone of his overall skill-set – and although we are yet to see what the 25-year-old is truly capable of over a prolonged period of time – the initial signs certainly look promising.

Chelsea should therefore look to complete this particular deal with full steam ahead this January. Diego Costa simply needs to fight for his place in order to play at his full capacity, and with the addition of some much needed competition among the Blues striking department this season, the resulting impact can only prove positive for the rest of Mourinho’s starting XI.

The up and coming Brazilian will likely cost a fair amount with all things considered however – but as Chelsea’s recent success has been partially built upon pure financial investment from their now notorious Russian chairman – such an eventuality will hardly arrive as much of a concern in and around Stamford Bridge this January.
