The La Liga champions are said to have made a new number one their top transfer priority, with current stopper Victor Valdes set to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season.
It was thought that they had set their sights on the Blues’ young Belgian Thibaut Courtois – who is on loan at Atletico Madrid – but with the Londoners eager to keep him, the Spaniards are ready to alter their focus.
Jose Mourinho may be willing to offer the 21-year-old a shot at first-team football at Stamford Bridge next season, but to do so Cech would have to be ousted.
This has alerted Barca, who are believed to be ready to make a move for the Czech international’s signature.
Cech has been the Londoners’ number one since his arrival from Rennes in 2004, developing into one of the world’s best goalkeepers.
His performances have dipped slightly over the past few seasons, but Chelsea are still said to value him highly.
At 31, he could be tempted by one last big move and the challenge of a new league.
Chelsea fans, is it time to sell Petr Cech and give Thibaut Courtois a chance?
