The Express reports that bookmakers Ladbrokes have suspended betting on their ‘Next Premier League manager to leave’ market in the wake of Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat at home to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Chelsea’s defeat wrapped up yet another dismal display from the team and leaves Chelsea firmly in the bottom half of the league table and the leaders could pull away with wins over the course of the weekend.
Speaking to the Express, Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Following the result we’ve decided to pause and take a breaker with our next boss to go market while we wait for further news.
“Meanwhile, Ancelotti appears to be making headway in the race to replace Mourinho as and when he does leave.”
It would be a big decision to sack Mourinho, and perhaps an even bigger one to bring back Carlo Ancelotti, but given the situation, and given the fact that there aren’t too many other managers available, it may be Roman Abramovich’s only option.
Chelsea have now lost six of their opening 11 Premier League fixtures this season, leaving them in 15th position and a huge 11 points adrift of table toppers Manchester City.
