After Chelsea's 2-2 draw with MOL Vidi in the Europa League, boss Maurizio Sarri hinted that youngsters Ethan Ampadu and Callum Hudson-Odoi may need to go out on loan in order to develop further.

What did he say?

"I am pleased with him (Ethan Ampadu) and Callum (Hudson-Odoi). They need to improve in every way, tactically, but they are in the right way."

What did he really mean?

Sarri made 10 changes from the weekend's win over Manchester City, with Willian the only player keeping his place in the starting XI, and it led to a disjointed performance from the Blues, as Olivier Giroud's free-kick 15 minutes from the end eventually secured them a draw.

Clearly, the Italian boss was reasonably impressed with both Ampadu and Hudson-Odoi though, despite the former scoring an own goal just two minutes after Chelsea had taken the lead.

However, after he said that both players needed to improve tactically in 'every way', it would seem that their first-team action may be limited for the remainder of the season.

Loan moves

The best bet for both players then could be loan moves away in January. It is clear that Sarri rates them both highly, but if the right team were to come in with an offer in the winter window then it would seem that the boss would be happy for them to develop elsewhere.

Both Ampadu and Hudson-Odoi are 18-years-old so they have plenty of time to learn the game, and there are far older players currently in the loan system at Chelsea.

Sarri should be commended for starting them both in the Europa League, and there is little doubt that both could go on to have great careers at Stamford Bridge.
