Maurizio Sarri admits he is in the dark over Chelsea's potential dealings in the January transfer window - despite more recent reports from The Mirror claiming the club are closing in on the loan signing of Gonzalo Higuain from AC Milan.

What's the word?

Chelsea are reportedly seeking reinforcements in the January transfer window, but Sarri has admitted that he is not paying attention to the club's dealings. Instead, they are being taken care of by director Marina Granovskaia.

Per The Daily Mail, Sarri said: "I want to be clear, because I cannot help you. I spoke with Marina [Granovskaia] two weeks ago, so Marina knows my opinion on how to improve the team. Then I decided to focus on the pitch, on matches and training. I am confident because I know Marina is working very hard, but I don't know the market at all."

Sarri in the dark

Sarri is not driving the club's transfer strategy, that much is clear.

The Blues manager has seen his side stutter at times this season; they were fourth in the Premier League heading into this weekend and ten points behind leaders Liverpool. Chelsea have struggled for fluency on the pitch, and this may well be the reason.

The club's power-brokers are the ones bringing in the reinforcements and perhaps they would be wise to allow Sarri more of a say.

He does not seem to know if Higuain will ultimately end up a Chelsea player, and the Blues are now without a like-for-like understudy to deep-lying playmaker Jorginho - one of the most important components in Sarri's system - after Cesc Fabregas left for Monaco.

Indeed, the Blues are unlikely to see much growth while Sarri is not in complete control of the club's signings and departures.
