Big six should take a gamble on Florian Thauvin

Football Whispers have composed a list of potential targets for Premier League clubs this year, and indicated that several top clubs should be lining up a move for Marseille’s Florian Thauvin.

What’s the word?

Thauvin has blossomed into a tremendous player since leaving Newcastle, and his form this season has been nothing short of sensational. The Frenchman was tempted into a Premier League move before, so it would be foolish to think he couldn’t be tempted again.

Newcastle fans may be surprised to see Thauvin flourishing so much in France. The Frenchman managed just 13 league appearances on Tyneside without a single goal. Still, most would give the flying winger the benefit of the doubt, considering his manager at the time was the extremely unpopular Steve McClaren.

Thauvin is valued at £25.2million by and has bagged an incredible 16 goals and 10 assists in 28 league starts for Marseille this season. His long-range goals, fantastic dribbling and lethal set piece taking have wowed spectators in France.

While it could be difficult for Premier League clubs to lure him away from Marseille, who themselves are on the brink of Champions League football, an offer from one of the “big six” could surely convince Thauvin to prove he can perform in one of the world’s top leagues.

Where would be the best fit?

Several of the Premier League’s top clubs could be interested in taking a gamble on Thauvin. Manchester City never seem to stop making quality additions, while Liverpool and Manchester United may both be interested in adding some depth to their wing positions.

However, Thauvin’s best chance of success would be in London. Arsenal could well undergo a massive squad overhaul this summer, and with virtually none of their attacking players firing, Thauvin could force himself in as an immediate starter. His end product has improved tenfold during his time at Marseille, which is something that Arsenal sorely lack.

Chelsea may also benefit from taking a punt on the 25-year-old. Willian divides opinion amongst fans, Pedro has been far from his best this season, and the Blues could yet face the prospect of losing Eden Hazard. If the Belgian superstar did leave London, Thauvin would not be a bad replacement.
