Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he would “love” Chelsea to push through a £200m deal for Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
The Argentine – who recently went top of La Liga and the Champions League’s all-time scoring charts – is widely seen as the very best player on the planet, but recent speculation has suggested that his situation at the Nou Camp is not as healthy as it once was.
Messi himself is rumoured to not be at his happiest as the Catalan giants go through a period of change in terms of style and management, while the club are also believed to have put the player up for sale if an astonishing bid in the region of £200m is received.
Such a sum would more than double the current record fee paid – £86m to take Gareth bale from Spurs to Real Madrid – but there are suggestions that Adidas could hep broker a deal to get their poster boy to one of their biggest clubs.
And Fabregas – who played with Messi before switching to Stamford Bridge over the summer – says that any switch would have his backing, even though it’s unlikely to happen:
“I wish! Why not? I’d love that to happen,” he is quoted by The Express.
“I’d be all for it. As a Barca man, I believe that Messi deserves to retire at Barca for all that he has given the club.
“He is a legend that has changed Barca history.
“But, as his team-mate and friend, without doubt I’d love to have Leo by my side.
“This season Barca are Messi and ten others. Messi has saved his team on many occasions.”
