Chelsea and Man City fans furious with Gerrard over Salah praise

Chelsea and Manchester City fans are furious with Steven Gerrard for saying Mohamed Salah is the best African player in Premier League history.

Salah has broken all kinds of records for Liverpool this season, registering 32 goals in all competitions, with 24 of those coming in the league.

The Egyptian has formed a remarkable relationship with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane since signing from Roma last summer.

While taking quick-fire questions on BT Sport, Gerrard responded “yes, probably” when asked if Salah was now the greatest African to ever play in the Premier League, prompting outrage from Chelsea and City fans on social media.

Chelsea fans are of course referring to two former superstars, Michael Essien and Didier Drogba, both of which won multiple trophies for the Blues.

Drogba in particular deserves shouts to be the Premier League’s greatest African player, netting 100 Premier League goals in 226 league appearance at Chelsea. He won four league titles, four FA Cups, and one Champions League.

City fans are also unhappy due to the exclusion of Yaya Toure, who was nothing short of sensational in their 2013/14 title win. He bagged 20 goals and ten assists that season, and just generally looked like a man playing against a bunch of children in the prime of his career.

We think Gerrard may have a different answer if given more time to think about it, but Chelsea and City fans are not letting him off that lightly. Some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…
