Chelsea attempted to replace Mourinho with Euro super-manager in November

Chelsea offered Carlo Ancelotti Jose Mourinho’s job in the Chelsea dugout in November, five weeks before they had even officially sacked the ‘Special One’, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Blues sensationally axed the Portuguese tactician last month after a disastrous start to the season, regardless of the fact he had guided the club to Premier League title in 2014/15.

During the period in which Mourinho’s position was under question many managers from across Europe were linked with moves to replace him, and reports now claim that the club actually offered the position to Ancelotti for the rest of the season, only for him to turn them down.

The Italian spent almost two years years at Stamford Bridge earlier in his career, but despite being out of work he opted against a return, with the short-term nature of the proposal an issue.

Ancelotti is now set to replace Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich this summer.
