Chelsea boost as Iniesta emerges as doubt for Barcelona ahead of Champions League tie

Chelsea could receive a big boost for their Champions League last 16 second leg against Barcelona as their opponents are in danger of missing one of their key players.

Andres Iniesta suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s La Liga game against Atletico Madrid, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Catalan giants.

The midfielder managed just 36 minutes of the encounter after initially trying to play on following the early blow.

Barcelona have not given a timeline of recovery for Iniesta, but depending on the severity of the problem, hamstring injuries can force players to be on the sidelines for up to two weeks or a month.

Chelsea will take on the Spanish outfit at the Camp Nou on March 14 in a clash that will decide which team progresses into the quarter-finals of the elite European competition.

The tie is evenly poised at 1-1 after Lionel Messi responded to Willian’s opener at Stamford Bridge, but Barcelona have the edge due to the away goal.

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea team have lost their last two Premier League games- against Manchester United and Manchester City – but they managed to hold their own in the showdown with Barcelona.
