Chelsea boosted ahead of PSG clash as French club suffer four-man injury blow

Chelsea will be lifted by the news that Paris Saint-Germain will be without four key players for their upcoming Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash against Jose Mourinho’s side, Daily Star reports.

The Blues will meet the current Ligue 1 champions tomorrow in what will be a repeat of last year’s quarter-final encounter.

Mourinho lost the first away leg 3-1, but his side were able to overcome their opponents in the return leg by a scoreline of 2-0, ensuring qualification thanks to an away goal after the results of both ties ended with an aggregate score of 3-3.

PSG will be without midfield pair Yohan Cabaye and Lucas Moura, while defensive duo Marquinhos and Serge Aurier will also be unavailable, with the four players picking up knocks in their recent 2-2 draw with Caen at the weekend.

Club manager Laurent Blanc revealed the news of his quadruple injury blow, but ensured the fans that his side doesn’t see it as a disadvantage when they host the current Premier League leaders at the Parc des Princes.

“We have four players injured that will certainly be absent against Chelsea. [Blaise] Matuidi is less of a concern,” he said.

“Against Chelsea we may be weakened, but what is certain is that we will play boldly, even if we have fewer options.”
