Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Fernando Torres will soon recapture his best form.
The Spaniard has endured a woeful two-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge following his £50m move from Liverpool.
With the Reds, Torres was considered as one of the Premier League’s finest goalscorers, but he has struggled in the blue shirt.
Despite his problems, he has remained a key member of the Londoners’ first-team and has started frequently under Mourinho so far this term.
Torres’ performances have shown signs of a return to his best, and his boss believes that he will rediscover his form soon:
“I think Fernando is doing well this season,” he is quoted by The Metro.
“He didn’t score in the Premier League, but some matches he wasn’t even on the bench as I left him out.
“He played very well against Bayern Munich [in the UEFA Super Cup] and he’s playing OK. He was very proactive against Tottenham, very dynamic, the best people had seen for quite a long time.
“The fact he recovered so well from his injury is not about the medical department, but his feeling. He had the same feeling playing that game against Tottenham as you did watching it. He wants to be back.
“He knows important matches are coming. He’ll come back good, and hopefully there’ll be one or two goals. He will score. Normally strikers have to score goals, and he will.”
Torres started on the bench for Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Norwich due to suspension and may find his route back into the starting XI blocked by Samuel Eto’o – who found the back of the net against the Canaries.
The 29-year-old was linked with a summer move away from the club.
