Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has insisted he wants a "big say" in the club's transfer business after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced their two-window ban to just one.

What's the word?

The Blues were unable to sign any new players in the summer due to FIFA's ban, and would not have been able to do so in the upcoming January transfer window unless it was reduced.

But after receiving the positive news, Lampard has admitted he is holding regular conversations with the club's hierarchy, and that when it comes to recruitment, he wants a "big say" in what the club does.

He said (as quoted by Goal): "I have had very open conversations with (Chelsea director) Marina (Granovskaia) which is speaking to the owner as far as I’m concerned. And of course I sit with my staff daily for hours, we talk about the team and how we can improve and of course at some points, you start thinking about the longer-term future.

"My biggest thing here is how hard can we work on the training ground because I know we have a good squad, that’s my main concern. Of course, when it comes to recruitment, I want to have a big say in it and we are very open."

Great news

Make no mistake about it, whilst the ban being overturned was positive in one aspect, the more important issue at hand surrounded how much of an influence Lampard would have. And if the Chelsea boss does indeed have a "big say" in what his side does in terms of bringing players in, then there is no reason why their excellent start to the season can't be maintained.

Where Are They Now: Chelsea edition. Do you know where all these Blues stars have ended up?

The Blues legend will be well aware of the kind of character and profile that his team needs, or would fit in well, and by putting forward his own recommendation for players, then he knows he can build his squad around the image he wants. The element of the club going over his head and simply signing superstars for the sake of signing them goes out the window. Instead, Lampard can ensure any transfers doesn't affect his side in an adverse way.

Meanwhile, Chelsea fans have slammed this man for his cameo against Lille in the Champions League.
