Chelsea boss ready to make huge January transfer gamble to save season

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to give free agent Emmanuel Adebayor a route back into Premier League football this January as he plots to turn the Blues’ season around, according to reports from The Guardian.

The Togolese striker has been without a club since leaving Spurs by mutual consent in September, but has been unable to sign for a new side due to having been registered at White Hart Lane as the last window closed.

Adebayor has since been linked with Aston Villa, but reports claim that Chelsea chief Mourinho is considering a move to draft in the 31-year-old due to Diego Costa’s poor form.

The Spaniard has netted just three Premier League goals for the struggling Londoners this season, which is a source of concern as a top four finish moves further and further from their grasp each week.

Although there are question marks surrounding the ex-Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester City marksman’s work ethic and motivation, he has worked under Mourinho at Real Madrid and is known to have a vast level of experience in top tier football.

Senior figures at Chelsea are more interested in snapping up a long-term option, but ‘The Special One’ wants a player able to make an instant impact.
